I can't believe as a photographer it took me so long to do this.
It wasn't until I was an adult that I truly understood what it meant to love a dog. As a child you don't understand how different they are, and that there are pets you click with and some you don't. Peanut was definitely my dog. It truly was meant to be. Vets often tell me that I must be the best mother in the world, cause my dog shoudl not be a live. When Peanut came in to my life some 12 years ago, she was a normal pup, barking, running... and peeing on my floor! Then sadly, at age four, things changed forever. She almost died - a problem with her tiny nasal cavity meant she couldn't drink water for herself anymore. I was so scared I was going to lose my furr-baby. She was too young and I wasn't prepared to say goodbye. After months of no answers I finally found a veterinarian who could help her. It has been a long eight years riddled with problems and even more close calls, but she is still with me. It was on that second scare that it dawned on me: I had no quality images of me and my dog. I decided to remedy that right away! When we got home after that second scare, I called my photographer friend Kevin to schedule our photo shoot immediately. I needed to make sure that when it was finally her time, I had what I needed to remember my beloved friend. Don't assume you know what the future holds. Get a treasure to commemorate your precious pet; after all, they are family!
